Stand Up Paddleboarding like all board surfing sports was developed in Hawaii in the 1960s. Originally developed as a method of getting out when there was no waves. SUPing involves a longer extra buoyant surf-board and a long single bladed paddle.
SUPing is gaining rapid popularity as it is relatively easy to master the basics, in fact most newcomers will be comfortable standing on the board within their first hour.
SUPing provides a great relaxing workout as nearly every muscle is used when SUPing. Many celebrities especially females have taken to the sport for it’s core workout.
Unlike surfing, SUPing can be learnt in a few hours, making it very rewarding for beginners. Stand up paddle boards are basically very long and buoyant surf boards that you move around using a paddle. Developed in Hawaii by Laird Hamilton and his surf buddies, the world’s fastest growing sport has found its way to Ireland and it is easy to learn!!
